July 1, QazaqGaz and Chevron Corporation, through its subsidiary Chevron Munaigas Inc., signed a cooperation agreement on geological exploration in the Zhalibek area of the Aktobe region, near the Zhanazhol and Urikhtau fields. Negotiations and technical preparations for this project have been ongoing for the past year. In the initial phase, Chevron will reprocess existing seismic data and develop technical interpretations. Both parties view the signed agreement as a potential start of broader cooperation.

August 1, Ali Al-Janabi was appointed Senior Vice President and Shell Kazakhstan Country Chair. Before this appointment, Ali was the Chairman of Shell in Iraq, Tunisia, and the UAE. He represented Shell Group to the governments of Iraq and the UAE. He was accountable for the performance of Shell’s Upstream Joint Ventures in Iraq, Italy, Kuwait, Tunisia, and the UAE.

#4 (148), September 2024April 1, Alibek Kuantyrov was appointed the new General Director of the KazEnergy Association, after resigning as Minister of National Economy in February 2022. His background includes working in the office of the first president of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Finance. His connection to the oil sector is through a four-month tenure in 2013 as Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Geology and Subsoil Use. He succeeded 65-year-old Kenzhebek Ibrashev, who had led KazEnergy since April 2021.

#4 (148), September 2024At the meeting of the Energy Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan, chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, the parameters of agreements between the national company QazaqGaz and the Qatari UCC Holding for the construction of gas industry infrastructure in Kazakhstan were approved.

#4 (148), September 2024June 2, at the OPEC+ meeting, held for the first time in Riyadh rather than Vienna, participants agreed to extend the voluntary oil production cuts until the end of 2025. The countries decided to prolong the additional voluntary reductions of 1.65 mln barrels per day, initially announced in April 2023, until the end of December 2025.

#3 (147), June 2024 special issueStarting January 1, KazTransOil increased the tariff for pumping Russian oil through the Kazakhstani section of the TON-2 pipeline (Tuymazy-Omsk-Novosibirsk-2) by 21%, from $9.3 per ton (excluding VAT) per 1,000 km to $11.28 per ton. Within Kazakhstan, the pipeline spans 186.25 km, serving as a conduit for Russian oil deliveries to the Pavlodar Refinery and facilitating exports to China and Uzbekistan.

#2 (146), April 2024 special issueDecember 2 in Dubai (UAE), the Chairman of KazMunayGas, Magzum Mirzagaliyev, and the General Director of AD Ports Group, Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, in the presence of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, signed a Principles Agreement. The parties agreed to establish a joint working group to explore the potential construction of a ship repair and shipbuilding facility on the Caspian Sea coast in Kazakhstan.

The discussions centered on collaboration within the management of joint ventures MunaiTas and the Kazakhstan-China Pipeline, focusing specifically on the expansion projects of the Kenkiyak-Atyrau and Kenkiyak-Kumkol oil pipelines.

#6 (144), December 2023October 4, shareholders of Phystech II at an extraordinary general meeting decided to transfer voluntarily and gratuitously 100% of the company's voting shares, valued at 35.417 billion tenge (about $72 million), to the state as a gift. The main asset of Phystech II is the Karazhanbas North field in the Mangistau region, with reserves of 39.5 million barrels of oil.

#6 (144), December 2023November 1, during French President Emmanuel Macron's official visit to Astana, an agreement was signed to establish a joint venture for the construction of wind power plants in Kazakhstan with a total capacity of 1 GW. The project participants from the Kazakh side are Samruk-Kazyna (20%) and KazMunayGas (20%), and from the French side, Total Eren (60%). The implementation is planned in two phases: the first will commission a 300 MW initial capacity; the second will add the remaining 700 MW. The wind farms will be equipped with a 300 MW energy storage system, reducing the risk of grid instability due to the intermittent nature of wind generation.

#5 (143), November 2023June 1, KMG PetroChem (a subsidiary of KazMunayGas) and Tengizchevroil signed the principal terms of agreements required to implement the Gas Separation Complex (GSC) project. The GSC, with a capacity of 9.1 bln cubic meters of dry gas per year, will be constructed at the Tengiz field. The GSC is an infrastructure designed to produce ethane used as raw material at the polyethylene plant (the "Polyethylene" project).

#5 (143), November 2023July 1, Alibek Zhamauv was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Energy. Born in 1981 in Atyrau, he graduated from Suleyman Demirel University and Satpayev KazNTU. He began his career at Agip Kazakhstan Caspian Operating Co. and later worked at Zhambyl Petroleum LLP. Between 2019-2020, he was the head of the technical group of PSA LLP. Since May 2020, he has been serving as the Deputy General Director of PSA LLP.

#4 (142), September 2023January 11, Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy, Bolat Akchulakov, announced plans to supply 1.5 mln tons of oil to Germany via the Druzhba pipeline in 2023. KazTransOil JSC has received confirmation from the Russian Federation's Ministry of Energy to transport 300 thous. tons of Kazakstanih oil through Transneft's main pipeline system towards the Adamova Zastava oil delivery point for further supply to Germany in the first quarter of 2023. The oil transit will be carried out under an agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Russia dated June 7, 2002.

#4 (142), September 2023Starting March 1, Dmitry Makeev has been appointed as the Deputy Chairman of KazMunayGas, where he will oversee the oil refining and petrochemical sector. Since December 2019, Makeev held the position of Director of the Oil Refining and Petrochemicals Department at the national company. From 2005 to 2019, he worked at the Atyrau Refinery, progressing from an operator to the Managing Director for Technology.
