Editor❜s Note
Stock of the Year

In this final issue of 2025, we take stock of the year. Among its key achievements, Minister of Energy Erlan Akkenzhenov cited the full completion of the Tengiz expansion project. Read in this issue how that project is reshaping Kazakhstan’s oil map.
In February, the country began a shift from administrative price controls on fuels and lubricants to market mechanisms. In this context, an analysis and report on KMG Aero’s role in building air hubs in Kazakhstan will be of interest. We also mark a notable anniversary, the 40th anniversary of the Shymkent Refinery.
Another growth point in 2025 was the gas-chemical sector. Construction and installation work began at the Gas Separation Complex site near Tengiz. KMG PetroChem’s portfolio includes several additional large projects that have made progress this year.
Reform of the geological sector has become pressing, even overdue. Kazbek Irgebayev, General Director of the Information and Analytical Center for Geology and Subsoil Use, sets out his proposals. Talgat Temirzhanov and Konstantin Polunin of Boston Consulting Group offer recommendations on how Kazakhstan can attract investment in energy under global competition.
We wish you pleasant reading and extend our greetings for the approaching holidays of Christmas and the New Year. See you in a happy 2026!
